A Template to Assist Teachers in Designing Rich Instruction and Performance Tasks

This workshop will provide participants with a deep understanding of the Smarter Balanced performance task structure and how to use that structure to build tasks that are aligned, but make sense in real classrooms. Participants will be provided with a process and planner for creating and implementing their own rich performance tasks.

Formative Assessment Resources: The Smarter Balanced Digital Library

Learn about the Smarter Balanced Digital Library, a formative assessment tool that will help teachers with lesson plan design and performance tasks. The Digital Library has over 3,000 entries for K-12 teachers to use in developing their formative assessments. California bought the license for every classroom teacher to have access to its use.

Getting Started with STEM by Introducing Engineering in the K-6th Grade Classroom

Engineering is the natural place to start with STEM and get a jump start on the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). This workshop will provide easy to implement strategies to get K-6th grade teachers started with engineering and plenty of sample project ideas to take back to school and share with your colleagues.

Key to Success; Making the Common Core Standards Accessible to All Students

This workshop focuses on instructional strategies for Mild/Moderate and General Ed teachers to use in the classroom when planning and teaching the new Common Core Standards to students with Individual Education Plans (IEP). Lesson planning is based around “Universal Design for Learning” theory and lesson examples and suggestions will be shown. Technology integration is also discussed in this workshop.

Using Children’s Literature to Enhance Literary Skills While Engaging and Entertaining Students (K-6)

Learn how children’s literature books can enhance the joy and love of reading and writing while meeting Common Core State Standards. Activities presented can be incorporated in literacy blocks and meet the key concepts for teaching direct instruction, guided practice and independent practice. The shared children’s literature can be used from Kindergarten to 6th grade. Attendees will be able to incorporate activities the next day in their classrooms.
