Veronica Carrizales is the Policy and Campaign Development Director of California Calls, a powerful alliance of 31 grassroots community based organizations in 12 counties around the state. The centerpiece of California Calls work is to achieve progressive, long-term tax and fiscal policy reform by engaging underrepresented, low-income voters in state public policy decision-making. At CA Calls, Veronica oversees policy related campaigns for major revenue reform, develops alliances and oversees coalition work with key statewide partners and has led the expansion of the alliance into new regions of the state.
Veronica is a first generation Chicana who was raised in the Coachella Valley with nine siblings in a farmworker family. She is passionate about advancing the cause of social and economic justice. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the CA Budget and Policy Center and Human Impact Partners.
Prior to joining the CA Calls team, she worked as a labor specialist with the UC Berkeley Center for Labor Research and Education. She created and facilitated a number of the Center’s visionary programs including the Latino Leadership Training School held in the Central Valley and the CA Lead Organizers Institute. In addition, her training skills were enhanced through her employment with ENLACE (U.S.-Mexico), where she led capacity building training and a workers’ rights program for Mexican maquiladora workers and U.S worker centers. Veronica got her start as an organizer working on advocacy campaigns for good jobs with the Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy on the Los Angeles Living Wage campaign and the Santa Monica Living Wage campaign. Veronica also previously organized manufacturing workers with the Los Angeles Manufacturing Action Project.
