iO Tillett Wright

iO is an artist whose work focuses on the leading margins of contemporary life and culture. Her current project Self Evident Truths examines Americans, asking them whether they are “A[nything] other than 100% straight” and photographing respondents self-evaluate themselves as such. To date she has photographed over 4,000 people in over 30 cities across the USA. Her photography is regularly featured on two blogs at the New York Times: “Notes from the Underground” and “The Lowdown.” In 2010 she displayed her first solo gallery showing in New York City. She has also published three limited edition books of photographs called “Lose My Number,” KISSER,” “Look Ma, No Hands.”
