Dear State Council Members,
You should have received an email earlier this week stating that due to the rapidly changing situation and spread of the Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), CTA has canceled all conferences for the month of March. This includes the State Council meeting scheduled for March 27-29 in Los Angeles. Auxiliary meetings to Council, such as Liaisons, Service Center Chairs, County Office of Presidents and ESP Leadership Academy are also cancelled.
This was not an easy decision, as we had a full agenda with elections and nearly 300 bills for committees to review and process, but the health and safety of all of you, your families and our students are our top priority as we navigate this changing situation. We are certainly in uncharted waters, and we appreciate your understanding and patience.
The CTA Board of Directors is meeting next week and will explore options for handling elections and bill positions. Advisory groups or planning committees that meet around Council should work with their Chairs and staff consultants to discuss rescheduling or holding meetings virtually – either online or by teleconference. As soon as we have more information, we will send it along.
Please see below for cancellation details.
HOTEL CANCELLATION INFORMATION
CTA will work with the Westin Bonaventure to cancel all hotel reservations made through CTA. If you booked outside of the CTA block or at a different hotel, then you will be responsible for cancelling your own reservation.
TRAVEL EXPENSE REIMBURSEMENT
Many airlines are relaxing their refund policies and may offer you a refund or credit toward a future trip. If you are unable to secure a refund or credit, please let us know and we will process an expense reimbursement for any incurred and non-refundable airline expenses. Please use this member expense statement to submit these reimbursement details.
QUESTIONS
If you have any questions regarding this meeting cancellation, please contact the CTA Conference Coordination Center at 650.552.5355 or email CTAStateCouncil@cta.org.
Again, we apologize for any inconvenience. But in this rapidly changing environment we are putting the health and safety of our members, our students and our families first. Please be safe as you work in your classrooms, schools and colleges. CTA is providing a variety of resources to educators and chapters at http://www.cta.org/covid-19.
CTA’s top policy-making body is the State Council of Education. Meeting four times a year, the council’s nearly 800 delegates elect the three state-level CTA officers and the CTA Board of Directors. Council also sets forth CTA policy, develops legislation, and makes recommendations in general elections.
