CTA’s New Educator Weekend is a new type of conference within the CTA world. Participants will be educators in their first five years in the profession. The New Educator Weekend has everything that new educators need in the first years of teaching with sessions and electives concentrating on:

  • Classroom Management – Creating a productive and inspiring learning environment
  • Navigating IEP’s and Special Education Areas
  • What I wish I knew my first years of teaching
  • Working with colleagues, administration and parents
  • Common Core, State Standards, Assessments and Pedagogy
  • Teaching is a Career
  • Resources and Programs available to members

Save the Date and plan to join your colleagues March 10-12, 2017 in Southern California for a great weekend full of learning. Share your stories and learn from others who have successfully navigated their early years in the profession and meet others that are going through their first years.

This first ever New Educator Weekend will bring together CTA members in their first five years in the profession. Starting Friday evening with cocktails, colleagues and comedy, attendees will be energized from the start. Saturday is a day to attend sessions of interest, learn from successful and inspiring educators, reflect with others from your chosen profession and talk about what lies ahead. Sunday morning will offer additional topics of interest and a closing brunch with a keynote speaker.

Registration is only $49 for CTA members which includes opening reception and dinner on Friday, breakfast and lunch on Saturday, brunch on Sunday and all materials. Districts may pay the registration fee as this event offers over 12 hours of professional development and will serve as an excellent induction program for new educators.

Come early on Friday for a special New Educator Weekend pre-conference. This pre-conference will help you get started in your teaching career with help on retirement planning, important contract provisions such as sick leave and family leave provisions, student loan forgiveness options, and more.

As a new educator, it’s easy to be overwhelmed. We want to ensure you are aware of the key provisions in your contract and the many benefits of CTA and NEA membership. During our day, we will cover the following:

  • Key contract provisions in your collective bargaining agreement;

  • Making smart 403(b) choices;

  • The value of membership for you, your family, and your career;

  • Options for student loan forgiveness; and

  • Special keynote speaker: Rob Black, host of Rob Black & Your Money

We are providing release time for this pre-conference, which means CTA Member Benefits will reimburse your employer for your substitute on Friday, March 10, 2017 to assist with your availability to participate.  Be sure to request release time and provide the necessary information when registering.
