This conference will capture the essence in CTA’s Mission Statement: to ensure that the dignity and civil rights of all children and youth are protected and to secure a more equitable and democratic society.

This unique conference offers dynamic speakers and more than 40 workshops to provide all CTA members with a greater understanding of the issues of diversity, equity and social justice.

Main Conference Highlights

Dinner and Entertainment – Friday Evening
The opening general session will begin after the group dinner and will feature opening remarks and a featured speaker. Take advantage of the opportunity to network with conference attendees and CTA officers.

Workshops of Interest – Saturday and Sunday
The Conference Planning Committee has arranged four workshop time slots, three on Saturday and one on Sunday morning. These workshops will cover topics of special interest in promoting diversity, social justice, reducing racism, addressing women’s issues and training on how to withstand attacks on public education. In all, you will be able to choose from nearly 40 workshops.

Human Rights Awards Luncheon – Saturday
The CTA Human Rights Awards are presented annually to honor individuals who have distinguished themselves in the advancement and protection of the human and civil rights of CTA members and students. The luncheon will recognize the 2017 award winners, and will feature CTA President Eric C. Heins as the guest speaker.

Retirement Savings Made Easy
March 3, 2017 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Saving for retirement is one of the most important steps you will take. Just how important is starting now? Don’t know where to start? Are you a hands-off investor? Attend our one-day pre-conference and get started!

We will review the basics of 403(b) and 457 plans along with easy tools to help you choose the right type of savings for your retirement account. We will introduce you to the new CTA 403(b) Retirement Savings Plan which is designed for the hands-off investor. The CTA Plan offers high-quality investment options with lower fees than other 403(b) plans and follows a fiduciary standard which means all decisions are made in your best interest.

This is a great opportunity to identify CTA resources which you can share in your local as part of a member engagement plan. We will use humor, games and skits to keep the day interesting.

Subject to approval of the chapter president release time will be arranged and paid for by CTA. Chapters may send members to one or more conferences. We encourage the chapter president to approve release time for one or more newer members of the chapter. This pre-conference is free and will be offered at the Issues Conference, Good Teaching Conferences North and South and the Equity and Human Rights Conference.
