Date: Friday, February 26, 2015
This year we are pleased to offer three different Friday Pre-Conference sessions. These all day sessions are:
- Building a Bridge between Assessment, Standards and Instruction (9:00am-4:00pm)
With the implementation of the Common Core Standards and the Smarter Balanced Assessments, teachers are challenged to make the instructional shifts to realize the Career and College Readiness skills required by the Common Core. Understanding the Design of the Smarter Balanced Assessment Blueprints helps teachers focus on developing meaningful instructional units and instructional strategies. Aligning assessment, standards, and instruction in ELA/ELD and math is critical for student success. Attend this day-long conference and explore how you can shift your instructional practices to help your students become excellent critical thinkers.
- The Educator's Guide to Saving and Investing for Retirement - Understanding 403(b) and 457 plans and saving for your future (10:00am-4:00pm)
This special one-day conference will cover the basics of 403(b) & 457 plans, strategies and resources to make informed investment decisions, along with how to deal with aggressive insurance agents. This is an interactive day that uses humor, games and multi-media to engage all participants. Registration is open to all CTA members. Key features of the new CTA-endorsed 403(b) plan will also be covered. Release time will be arranged and paid for by CTA for two members per chapter for the Issues Conference* and three members per chapter for all other conferences with the approval by the chapter president. Chapters may send members to one or more conferences. We encourage the chapter president to approve release time for one or more newer members of the chapter. This pre-conference is free.
Release time is ONLY for release of the CTA member from work duties on Friday, February 26, 2016. CTA will reimburse the District upon receipt of an invoice.
The release time deadline is February 19, 2016.
- Teacher Innovation Expo sponsored by the Institute for Teaching (IFT) (8:30am-4:30pm)
This expo will allow time for listening, reflecting and dialoguing about potential innovative ideas involving the arts, parent engagement, STEM education, school gardens, civic engagement and more. The expo will include:
